When I think of young, celebrity fashion icons in today’s world, one name comes to mind… Zendaya Coleman.
Zendaya first rose to stardom when she was cast for a leading role on the Disney channel sit-com Shake It Up. Since then, she has recorded a self-titled album, appeared on season 13 of Dancing with the Stars, landed roles in Spider-Man: Homecoming and The Greatest Showman, and produced and starred in K.C. Undercover, another Disney Channel sit-com.
When asked to describe her style in an interview with stylecaster.com, Zendaya responded that her style was “fearless.” I could not agree more with that statement. Her style is unique, and she is not afraid to stand out. I find this so inspiring because people are often afraid to wear what makes them happy due to fear of being made fun of for not conforming to what society deems as “cool” or “fashionable”. She thanks her stylist, Law Roach, for pushing her to break out of her comfort zone when it comes to fashion.
Her love for fashion inspired her to start her own clothing line, Daya by Zendaya, which launched November 3rd, 2016. The line, co-designed by Law Roach, featured everything from jumpsuits, to jackets, to dresses for sizes 0-22. I appreciate that she included a wide range of sizes because many designers do not cater to plus size consumers. I am a big believer in body positivity and including all shapes and sizes in the fashion world. Everyone should be able to wear whatever they want and showcase their personal style whether they are a size 2 or 22.
Zendaya’s style on and off the red carpet is one I truly admire. She keeps it classy, while still looking effortless and cool. She is a young celebrity that deserves to be recognized not only for her ongoing success in Hollywood, but for her iconic style as well.
