Alumna Spotlight: Rachel Spence

Today we are highlighting Rachel Spence, a valuable CDR alumna. Rachel graduated in 2018 with a degree in Integrated Marketing Communication. During her time in CDR, she stayed engaged with the club by writing blog posts for our website. Rachel also exceeded expectations with her writing by having it published in the Rocket under the CDR column. 

Rachel found her way after graduation by utilizing her knowledge of the fashion industry, working as a Master Data Specialist for Dick’s Sporting Goods, where she ensures every product style is accurately defined, attributed, and maintained.

Rachel’s experience in CDR left a lasting impact on her. The guest speakers who shared real-world insight into the fashion industry were especially important in helping to shape Rachel’s career path.“I always had an interest in working in fashion, but being part of the club helped solidify that passion and made me realize that a career in retail was possible,” Rachel said. 

CDR offers many opportunities, but some that are always fan favorites are the trips the club takes. One of Rachel's specific CDR memories was visiting a wedding venue, where she and the other members were able to gain hands-on experience by working on redesigning the business logo. 

Working in retail means Rachel must strike the perfect balance between comfort and style. Her go-to look almost always starts with a timeless staple that never fails—a classic plain tee. She pairs it with a solid, well-fitted pair of jeans, avoiding an overly distressed style, which is a trend she has moved past. Rachel will always pick pieces that feel polished, practical, and effortless.

Rachel made a point of mentioning that you don’t need to have everything figured out in your 20s. It is okay to experiment with different roles and try new things. She encouraged members to build real connections with one another, reminding us that at the end of the day, your network really does matter, and it is one of the most valuable assets you’ll carry forward throughout your career.
