Favorite Halloween TV Shows and Movies

Updated: Oct 15, 2020

Cold nights and falling leaves can only mean one thing, it’s finally autumn. It also means Halloween is right around the corner and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I live for all things spooky but surely my favorite part of the season is watching TV huddled under a blanket. I’ll share some of my favorite shows and movies that I never miss during the Halloween season.

First on my list is The Nightmare Before Christmas it’s cheesy and silly but its nostalgic. Speaking as someone who was deathly afraid of Halloween for the first 18 years of her life, I can safely say this movie is good for everyone.

The next movie I’d never miss is The Shining. The Shining is one of my favorite movies because every time I watch it, I see something different. The insanity of the Overlook Hotel is unsettling and always makes me shudder, but it’s a staple for me each season.

It wouldn’t be Halloween if I didn’t watch at least one season of American Horror Story; normally I would be in the midst of watching the latest season but because of COVID-19, I’ve been re-watching AHS: Coven. Coven is my favorite season and I would watch it all day if I could, the colors, music and themes really set the spooky vibe.

Rosemary’s Baby although it’s older, left me feeling uneasy and gave me nightmares the week after I watched it. The movie is just crazy and just one thing after another, it left me hanging onto my seat.

Lastly, Rod Sterling makes me shudder every Halloween with The Twilight Zone. Again, it’s old and maybe not for everyone, but the way it messes with you head and has you in shock nearly 50 years later is enough for me.
